The Duke Energy Foundation Grant Application

The Piedmont Foundation has combined with the Duke Energy Foundation. The combined organization will continue to address the needs of our communities by investing time and resources to improve the quality of life for our customers and neighbors.

The Duke Energy Foundation actively works to strengthen the quality of life in the communities we serve. We fund programs that support Duke Energy's philanthropic strategies in the following investment priorities: K to career, the environment and community impact.

The Duke Energy Foundation receives grant requests for funding during cycles for each investment priority. While an organization's programming may align with more than one investment priority, the Foundation prefers to provide funding to an organization once in a 12-month period. Therefore, we encourage you to first do a comprehensive evaluation of your organization’s funding needs and programmatic goals/outcomes to determine which investment priority and funding cycle to pursue. This does not preclude you from applying to more than one investment priority during a 12-month period, but receiving funding in multiple investment priorities during this time period will be rare.
All grant requests must be entered through Piedmont’s online grant application system, using the links below.

The application process

The first step is to complete an eligibility quiz, which is a series of questions to determine your organization's eligibility with funding guidelines and alignment with Duke Energy's investment priorities. After completing the eligibility quiz, all first-time applicants will register to create an account on the Duke Energy Foundation grant management system. Once you've created an account, you will be directed to the appropriate grant application.

In addition to completing the quiz, organizations are strongly encouraged to contact the Foundation staff with a brief project overview to ensure the project is a fit with our investment priorities. Our team can also provide valuable insights on the process and crafting a competitive application. Email us at

After the proposal cycle closes, each grant application is reviewed and assessed by the Foundation staff. Final grant approval typically occurs three to five months from the close of the cycle. Local community development grants ($20,000 or less) are reviewed and approved year-round, and final grant approval should occur within two to three months.
