Low-Income Energy Efficiency Program
Piedmont’s low-income energy efficiency program provides energy efficiency measures and weatherization assistance to existing eligible low-income residential customers in our South Carolina service territory.   The program primarily addresses improvements to the building envelope such as adding insulation, sealing major air leaks, sealing/insulating ductwork, etc. Equipment replacement is not eligible under this program.

Eligibility Requirements
If you are a customer who is considered to be low-income according to the 2010 federal poverty guidelines, including those with income eligibility up to 200 percent of those guidelines, you may apply for this program. Due to limited program funding, this program is currently only available to a limited number of eligible low-income residential customers in the following counties: Greenville and Spartanburg.  The low-income program is being administered through two different agencies that are involved in the weatherization of low-income homeowners.

If you are eligible, submit your contact information as indicated below. After Piedmont receives your request, the agency for your area will contact you directly to request that you fill out an application and verify your income level.   Once approved for assistance, the agency will schedule an energy audit of your home. Based on the results of the energy audit, the agency and/or energy contractor will perform the recommended energy efficiency or weatherization measures up to the amount of assistance being provided. There will be no charge to you for these services.

Not eligible? Check out our Energy Saving Tools for low-cost and/or no-cost recommendations that are specific to your home.

How to apply
If you meet the eligibility requirements for this program, please email your name and preferred method of contact to save-energy@piedmontng.com or call 1-877-279-3636 (Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.).  Once Piedmont receives your request, there may be a delay before the agency is able to contact you directly.  The residential Low-Income Energy Efficiency Program is administered and implemented by an independent agency and only work performed by this agency will be eligible for funding from this program.

The state of South Carolina also offers weatherization assistance to qualifying low-income residents.  For more information about the Federal Low-Income Weatherization Assistance Program administered through the SC Office of Economic Opportunity please visit the following website: www.oepp.sc.gov/oeo/weatherization.htm.
