This position involves the setting of meters, repair and installation of gas appliances.  The technician must obtain a Mecklenburg County Journeyman’s card to install gas piping, work on fuel burning equipment and install gas water heaters.   

Minimum Requirements:

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude 
• Valid drivers license 
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Requirements:

• HVAC or related experience 
• High school diploma or GED 
• Related vocational or technical training 
• PC/CRT experience

Physical Requirements:

Must access crawl spaces and attic spaces; frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing and lifting (up to 75 lbs); frequent walking over uneven terrain; must get in and out of vehicle; must frequently use hand tools to install/repair gas appliances, equipment and lines (turning wrenches, etc.) must climb ladders, must work outdoors in all types of weather.

Other Requirements:

Weekend and overtime work as required; some rotating shifts.  On call may be required.
