For the second time in 24 hours, a non-Piedmont construction crew has caused damage to a Piedmont Natural Gas distribution line in Hickory, North Carolina. Natural gas service was partially restored overnight after the first incident, but has now again been interrupted for approximately 200 Piedmont customers in the Rock Barn Road area. Natural gas service has been turned off, although natural gas odor may persist. Piedmont crews are working to repair the damaged line. Once repairs have been made, Piedmont crews and personnel will visit affected customers to restore service. If your natural gas service has been interrupted, please call Piedmont Natural Gas at 1-800-752-7504. If you smell natural gas inside your home, go to a location outside your home and call 911 or Piedmont at 1-800-752-7504. Piedmont points out that most natural gas leaks are caused by non-Piedmont construction crews and encourages contractors and others to call 811 to locate utility lines before digging.
